For an organization I was with for years. I would share with the parents and educate the teachers how to explain
Marisa Prewitt
49:07
totally agree Elizabeth!!
Kathy Wall
50:22
As a teacher, I would try to go through and highlight items on this report before sending it home
Marisa Prewitt
50:41
It is SO important to share this information to parents...and point out the GROWTH of the child...sometimes parents get caught up in the numbers too and focus on the number and not growth. It is important to remember children are not just a number.
Elizabeth Stone Grimes
51:18
Very true! You will like what we say on the next slide Marisa.
Kathy Wall
51:21
That was the 1st thing I highlighted was the amount of growth
Carl Henderson
55:59
Growth is what I encourage my teachers to look at

I some students that came in at the beginning of kindergarten in the 300s.
Marisa Prewitt
57:08
Isabel will you remind the participants how to read the number...498 (4 years 9 months; 300 like 3 years....we must remember the child's birthday
Lena Hope
57:13
I am not the teacher but I have been around awhile and I have been trying to get the teacher to see that growth is more important
Robin Brand
57:45
Yes, Marisa!!!! I always shared this with parents. It made them feel so much better.
Marisa Prewitt
58:59
I LOVE this information Isabel!!! I have been wanting this information to be shared for such a long time!!!!
Michael Mozee
59:06
As a former teacher. I took those beginning of the year scores Personally. As if that was my child and I challenged myself each year to show growth in all of my children. I sat down with parents and showed them how we could work together to show growth.
LaTessa Long
59:50
You were totally awesome Mozee!!
Marisa Prewitt
01:01:05
Personally, even first grade teachers, did not want children who entered their classroom with such a high outrageous score, because we could not show the growth the administrators wanted, therefore...remember to understand the whole child :-)

Marisa Prewitt

01:21:45
A.S. is tricky for children. I've seen them try and sing the alphabet to figure it out. But its difficult with only three letters in sequence.
Elizabeth Stone Grimes
01:22:02
As mentioned the slide deck will be available on the resources page (MDE) online along with the recording.
Carl Henderson
01:22:11
it helps them to see what areas their children are "safe" in and which ones they maybe need to work on at home it they are in the range
Robin Brand
01:23:27
Earlier I wanted to answer to work on alphabetic principal skills because many of the skills listed and tested are not DAP for Pre-K. So glad you shared that information with us.

I've shared how easily assessable the are for teachers to share with parents. When I was informed of the "strong readers link" by Kelly, I shared with my family as well. I will continue to share with teachers and families that I encounter.
Merry Pennell
01:30:51
Pre-K and K reading activities would be something I would share with parents.
Monica May
01:31:15
Based on the reports, it is great to be able to share and show families how the progression of learning actually occurs.
Monica May
01:31:28
Based on the Strong Readers, I love the explanation of the "why" that is including for them to understand why this is important. I think the succinct and easy for anyone (families of all levels) to be able to understand! Great work to help the state!

This is a great tool for the teachers. A lot of them are unaware of the progression level of literacy or what some of the categories mean. I found that it boosted their confidence and added to their being more experienced in literacy.
Vonda Pittman
01:36:02
