Renaissance MAT Chat - Shared screen with speaker view
Good morning everyone, thank you for joining us today!
As Margaret mentioned, do let us know where you are joining us from today!
Hi, I'm Sue from a secondary school in South Derbyshire. Never done this before.
Good morning nice to have a window on the rest of the world. Anne LRC Manager Not fully rolled out AR in school yet. Feeling good sunny day helps
Morning Anne and Nicola - great to have the sun today
i have just excluded my two dogs for being so noisy!
Don't worry everyone is on mute automatically :)
Hi, I'm From Outwood Academy Redcar, lovely bright and sunny morning here
Hello! I am a Canadian working in London UK at a school library. Congrats on the upcoming grandchild!
As Margaret has said, please do change the chat to 'All panelists and attendees'
And let us know if you have any audio issues or cannot hear Margaret speaking now
Hello I am working as a school librarian in the West Midlands.
Morning, lovely sunny day here in London. Hello from Eko Trust
Great to have you all with us today!
Hello everyone! I'm from Millbrook Juniors and it is lovely and sunny here too!
Hi everyone, Hedy here - I'm a school Librarian at Bosworth Academy in Leicestershire.
Any questions you have for Margaret, Dave of Lyndsay, feel free to put them in the Q and A feature as we go through today's session.
Are you disinfecting the books?
Do check out readon.myon.co.uk if you haven't already Victoria as we have opened up 7.000 books for children to access at home - with audio available. Many local libraries will also have audio books available to borrow.
Are your children accessing the MYON books that have been made available?
I have put together a powerpoint showing my students each step on how to quiz from home
are you all aware of public libraries making registration easier and loaning out ebooks. Weve put a link on our website to public libray
Our 2 local Libraries have no more ebooks available. So not an option for our students sadly, but great that someone is reading them!
I produce word count graphs each week. There is a great deal of competition between some of our classes which are close. Reading figures are announced on our weekly video broadcast, which is a fun broadcast sent out to all pupils.
That sounds great Tracey - we also have resources available, including some addressed at parents, on our website, http://www.renlearn.co.uk/renaissance-at-home/
CILIP have produced guidelines for accepting returns. Returning books need to be stored for several days before they are touched
My concern would be books being returned when school re opens.
Keeping competitions and praise going away from school is a great way to maintain motivation!
Hi Victoria, if you can change your chat settings to 'all panelists and attendees' then the other attendees will be able to see your comments :)
We have done virtual rewards and an assembly newsletter to motivate students.
We already know that some of our children have lost family members to Covid19
So sorry to hear that Tracey
How do you do word count graphs?
highlights the need for statutory guidelines for libraries in schhos
On AR Reports you go into reading practice and then word count. Then I input the data into Excel to produce graphs, so not direct graphs from Renaissance.
of course kids will be worried we need to really be looking after their mental health
on the Thursday before lockdown commenced they crammed 50 people into my Library space, the area is just the size of 2 classrooms
Sorry I have another zoom meeting so will have to leave. Assume you will email after session?
Not to worry Victoria, we are recording today's session and will email it out. Thank you for joining
I like the sound of presenting word graphs for the competitive element- has it worked in your school?
It has worked where the competition is close. We have done figures from September, but found some classes were so far behind they gave up. So we started doing monthly graphs and that has worked well. We also have two trophies, highest word count since September and highest monthly word count. Before lockdown these were given out in assemblies.
my worry is guidlines will not be comrehensive enough for schools
Yes, we really need clarity on the safety measures
We will be posing more questions to Dave and Lyndsay shortly so do let us know in the Q and A feature if there is anything you would like to ask them.
Do we anticipate a dip in the next STAR Assessments?
Renaissance will put together an 'impact study' to try to establish the extent of the COVID dip (if any) across the country. Out some time in Autumn.
That will be really helpful thank you
Nicola Hickton Associate Assistant Head and Director of Standards for English Chiltern Learning Trust wrote to us beforehand and advised: "schools should not be afraid to have AR conversation with parents, engage them with data - tracking students progress is very easy (using % out a 100) even parents with minimal English are able to assess how well they children are doing. It is probably even easier to understand children’s progress on AR for them than in any other subject."
we have seen how capable teachers and schools have been. Big thank you to you all
readon.myon.co.uk - feely availble to all and no login needed
disappointned how little is available quiz wise on the free version of MYON
If you search by language, English UK on the myON site there are nearly 1,000 books with AR quizzes available. but we did want to open up as much material as possible to enagage students with reading in different topics and levels.
Of course we want students to be quizzing as much as possible, but any reading is going to help in the long run!
thank you all for running this
You can also use www.arbookfind.co.uk and search by myON books in the Advanced Search feature to see which myON books have quizzes available
Do you think we could assess GCSE on regular project work? Similar to BTech
Thank you all - good to have some contact with others and very useful content.
New MAT case study from West Norfolk Academies Trust:
Full myON also has a greater number of quizzes available.
Yes Lawren, if you have the paid for version of myON there will be a direct link for them to quiz on the book once they have completed reading it.
New blog from Josh Perry on what data analysis is important:
If you are just using the readon.myon version, then they can search for the quiz within AR once they have finished the book.
The quizzes are the same AR quizzes, but if you have the paid for version then it will link directly, if you do not have the paid for version then they can search as normal on AR.
But yes, through bookfinder you can search in Advanced Search for myON books and that will show you which ones have AR quizzes available
